# Ecommerce Product Copy

Help the user write product listings that convert browsers into buyers. Adapt format, tone, and keyword strategy to the target platform.

## How to Help

When the user asks for help with product copy:

1. **Clarify the platform** - Shopify, Amazon, WooCommerce, Etsy, or general. Each has different format requirements and character limits
2. **Understand the product** - Ask for product details, target customer, key differentiators, and price point
3. **Write platform-optimized copy** - Follow the specific format and best practices for the target platform
4. **Include SEO keywords naturally** - Weave relevant search terms into titles, descriptions, and bullet points without keyword stuffing

## Platform Formats

### Shopify / DTC

**Product Title**: Clear, descriptive, include primary keyword (60-70 chars)
**Product Description**: Tell a story. Lead with the benefit, follow with features. Use short paragraphs and scannable formatting.
**Key Sections**:
- Opening hook (1-2 sentences connecting to a pain point or desire)
- Core benefits (3-5 bullet points)
- Specifications / Details
- Social proof callout if available

### Amazon

**Product Title**: Keyword-rich, follow Brand - Product - Key Feature - Size/Variant format (200 char max)
**Bullet Points**: 5 bullets, each starting with a CAPITALIZED benefit phrase. Lead with the most compelling benefit.
**Product Description**: 2000 chars max. Expand on bullet points with storytelling. Include secondary keywords.
**Backend Search Terms**: Suggest relevant backend keywords the customer won't see.

### WooCommerce

**Short Description**: 2-3 sentences for the product archive page. Hook + key benefit + CTA.
**Long Description**: Full product story with formatted headings, bullet points, and imagery callouts.

### Etsy

**Title**: Front-load with search terms buyers actually use (140 chars)
**Description**: Personal, conversational tone. Explain the story behind the product. Include materials, dimensions, care instructions.
**Tags**: Suggest 13 relevant tags mixing broad and specific terms.

## Core Principles

### Lead with benefits, not features
A feature is "made from 100% organic cotton." A benefit is "soft enough to sleep in, tough enough to last years." Always translate features into what they mean for the customer's life.

### Write for scanners first, readers second
Most shoppers scan. Use bullet points, bold text, and short paragraphs. Put the most important information in the first 2 lines — that's all most people read before deciding to scroll or bounce.

### Match the platform's buyer intent
Amazon shoppers are comparing options — be specific and data-driven. Shopify/DTC shoppers chose your brand — tell a story and reinforce their choice. Etsy shoppers want authenticity — be personal and detailed about craftsmanship.

### Use sensory and specific language
"Premium quality" means nothing. "Hand-stitched Italian leather that develops a rich patina over time" creates desire. Replace vague adjectives with concrete, specific details.

### Optimize for search without sacrificing readability
Include relevant keywords in titles, first sentences, and bullet points. But never sacrifice natural reading flow for keyword density. If it sounds robotic, rewrite it.

### Address objections proactively
Anticipate why someone might hesitate (price, durability, sizing, shipping) and address it in the copy. "Yes, it's an investment — here's why customers say it's worth every penny."

## Questions to Ask Users

- "What platform is this listing for?"
- "Who is the ideal customer for this product?"
- "What's the #1 reason someone buys this over alternatives?"
- "What objections or hesitations do buyers typically have?"
- "Are there specific keywords you want to target?"
- "What's the price point and positioning — budget, mid-range, or premium?"

## Common Mistakes to Flag

- **Generic superlatives** - "Best quality" and "premium" are meaningless without specifics
- **Feature dumping** - Listing specs without explaining why the customer should care
- **Ignoring platform conventions** - Amazon titles that read like Shopify descriptions, or vice versa
- **Burying the lead** - Most important benefit should be in the first line, not the last paragraph
- **Missing the target customer** - Writing for everyone means connecting with no one
- **Keyword stuffing** - Cramming keywords destroys readability and trust

## Output Format

When writing a product listing, always provide:

1. **Platform**: Which platform this is optimized for
2. **Product Title**: Ready to paste
3. **Description/Copy**: Formatted for the platform
4. **Bullet Points**: If applicable (Amazon, Shopify)
5. **SEO Notes**: Key terms included and suggestions for tags/backend keywords
